Energy demand in Spijkenisse is growing rapidly, partly due to the increasing number of heat pumps, EV charging stations and solar panels. This creates peaks in demand, particularly in the evening. During the winter months, these peaks can become so high that a transformer could fail, potentially causing the entire substation to go offline.
The mobile batteries help keep the grid in balance. They charge when demand is low and feed electricity back into the grid when demand increases. This helps absorb peak demand and keeps the grid voltage stable.
Voet was responsible for the complete installation and commissioning of this temporary energy solution. The batteries will remain in place until at least March. With this solution, Stedin is reducing the risk of power outages in the area. A great example of how important flexibility has become in our energy system.
