Working at Voet: A look into Casper’s career
Over four and a half years ago, Casper de Graaf took his first steps at Voet Energy Solutions as an apprentice technician. He was studying to become an electrical technician (Level 3) in residential and commercial engineering. The school initially questioned whether the internship and workplace were a good match, but for Casper it was clear from day one: this is where he wanted to stay. “I immediately felt at home and enjoyed it so much that I didn’t want to leave. Eventually, the school approved it as well,” Casper says.
Working at Voet: A look into Casper’s career
For the first 2.5 years, Casper worked as an apprentice technician and has now already been a fully qualified electrician for a year. Why Voet? For Casper, the work environment here was much broader and offered endless opportunities to keep learning.
“At Voet it just felt right,” he says. It was an all-round working and learning environment, where he not only developed his electrical skills, but also gained experience in engine technology and transport. At Voet he found the perfect place to grow and develop in all three disciplines.
“You are not thrown in at the deep end as an apprentice. In the first few weeks you join your colleagues on the road, you observe and get explanations. Any question I had could be answered by a colleague, who would always explain it clearly.”
Casper shares his experience: “Everyone was really willing to explain things properly. If I didn’t know something, I always got the help I needed and all colleagues were very engaged and supportive.” At Voet he was encouraged to follow his interests and learn new skills.
What Casper enjoys most about his job today? The independence. “At first you depend more on others, but later you start working based on your own judgement. What I love is the teamwork—we joke around, but we also know when to be serious and get the job done. We really do it together. The flat structure at Voet, the freedom, the way we communicate, the helpfulness and mutual respect all contribute to that.” Casper also finds it important to help colleagues: “If almost everyone has gone home and a driver arrives for unloading? I’ll help! If I get a call at night? I’m happy to think along too.”
Variety is what makes the work truly enjoyable for Casper. “At Voet you never stop learning. Even after graduating a year ago, I’m still developing myself. If I tell management what else I want to learn, they always encourage it and make it possible. I recently got my truck driver’s license—something I really wanted.”
