Sustainable Power Supply at the New Wine Festival
Each year, the New Wine Festival takes place for a week on the beautiful Landgoed Velder estate in Liempde, Brabant. For the fifth consecutive year, Voet Energy Solutions has been entrusted with providing the temporary power supply for the event.
In the early years of our partnership with the festival, we supplied mobile emergency generators to meet the energy demand. At the time, we partially relied on the local power grid, supplementing it with generators to ensure a stable supply. Thanks to our technological progress and innovative vision, this year we have made a significant step toward sustainability and efficiency.
This year, we powered the entire festival while achieving an impressive 99% reduction in diesel consumption compared to last year! With our hybrid solution, we made optimal use of the grid connection available at the festival site. Using low-voltage cables, we built a smart ring main system across the site. The hybrid system — consisting of the grid connection, a powerful 420 kWh battery, and a generator — ensured we could extract the maximum capacity from the grid. The battery compensated for any shortfalls, and when it neared depletion, the generator briefly started up to recharge it.
The results speak for themselves: where we previously consumed around 10,000 liters of diesel over two weeks, this has now been reduced to just 100 liters. This substantial saving in fuel and CO₂ emissions goes hand in hand with increased energy reliability. The integrated ring main system and reduced number of components help minimize faults and outages — a meaningful step toward a greener, more sustainable festival.
Our involvement in the New Wine Festival extends beyond simply supplying temporary power. We actively participate in the power planning process, working each year with Stichting Opwekking to identify opportunities for optimization and improvement. It’s a dynamic process we manage from start to finish, ensuring peace of mind for the client. In addition to transport and part of the electrical setup, we also handle fuel management — which, during this latest edition, was minimal thanks to the use of the grid.
It’s worth noting that this technological progress does not come at a financial burden to our client. While costs increased slightly, the result was a significantly improved and more reliable power supply. Together with Arie Korengevel, his electrical team, and the festival organizers, we are proud to have delivered an on-site energy solution with minimal CO₂ emissions — a great achievement.
